There are many different forms of psychiatric medications to help deal with anxiety ranging from Paxil and Prozac to Valium, Xanax, and many more. Many of these drugs have helped fuel prescription drug overdose and come with dangerous and even deadly side effects. Over the last decade, Cannabis has started to make headlines as the new anti-anxiety drug. Perhaps this would have been useful information to a 54-year-old man who recently had to have 4 lbs of stones, coins, and bottle caps removed from his stomach.
The man who was from an area near Seoul Korea went to the hospital complaining of a belly ache. Thankfully, surgery was a success and after 9 days, the 54-year-old man was allowed to return home. No one knows how long it took him to accumulate the 4 lbs of stones, bottle caps, and coins in his belly, but it’s safe to say he feels a little lighter.
The man was on psychiatric medication yet still had anxious and nervous feelings. This is why he said he ate rocks, bottle caps, and coins. Apparently, there’s not a pill for everything, perhaps cannabis would have helped. Imagine trying to pass through a metal detector at an airport with TSA agents and trying to explain this one.
Anxiety is real, and it affects millions. Anxiety disorders have become the most common form of mental illness in North America. As a deeper understanding of anxiety takes place researchers have learned that anxiety disorders tend to be genetically inherited. However, Anxiety is not always a bad thing.
In fact, anxiety is a very normal and vital function of our body. It’s the human body’s way to respond to stress. Starting a new job, the first day of school, or speaking to an audience are examples of situations where many people experience anxiety.
Many of us push through this feeling to accomplish the task at hand. This isn’t the case for everyone though. Some people become so anxious that it prevents them from doing anything. This is often referred to as being triggered and believe me, they have something for this…cannabis!
