Not many years ago, any positive cannabis news story would have seemed like fake news. Today though more places globally are legalizing cannabis for medical and/or recreational purposes. This is making it hard to decipher fact from fiction for many when it comes to stories being published!
Here at Roottie we always fact check before reporting. So rest assured that the news you read here is always true. We also want to warn you of fake news stories. Below you can find three of the most popular fake news stories pertaining to cannabis and the truth that surrounds them. By sharing these stories and their lack of truth with you hopefully together we can reduce their circulation.
Fisher Price Announces Tiny Toker Toy Set
In 2018 an image came into circulation on social media displaying what would appear to be a new toy from Fisher-Price. It was shown as the Tiny Toker Toy. The photoshopped image showed several weed oriented toys including a tiny bong. While we believe talking to your kids about cannabis at an early age is important there is absolutely no validity to this image. Fisher-Price did not release a cannabis-oriented toy. The image was the work of a popular social media page, @sean_speezy which is known for making satirical, entertaining and almost lifelike images for stoner humor. Snopes
NASA Finds Planet Made of Weed
We’d love to report that this is a true story, however, NASA did not find a planet made of weed. While this would have been one of the greatest discoveries in NASA’s history there is absolutely no validity to it. The story originated back in 2015 via NewsWatch28 and continues to be circulated and repurposed today. We sure hope any planet we discover offers an environment to grow cannabis. With that being said though, it is highly unlikely that we will ever find a planet made of weed! Snopes
McDonald’s is Installing Smoking Pods for Stoners
While this should have been an obvious one, many people were ecstatic across social media upon its release. The original article stated that “McDonald’s restaurants in Colorado have turned their Play Place areas into marijuana-friendly smoking zones.” The story is, of course, fake news. While it would be cool to be able to toke up at McDonald’s most of us prefer to do so before vegging out on fast food. Many cannabis consumers, however, would rather opt for a home-cooked meal than a greasy McDouble. Snopes
