Forbes is a reliable news source for many people. When you see them doing a story that talks about the U.S. falling behind while cannabis goes global, you know there’s something to it. They hit the nail on the head with this one.
The United States of America has elected political leaders that have private agendas. These private agendas are continually fueled by cannabis prohibition. Continued cannabis prohibition benefits only private corporations and those looking to control the public. Countries around the world are throwing out the United States supported war on drugs or should I say their attempted eradication of cannabis.
Many Countries Are Doing it Right
These countries are changing their outdated draconian laws and adopting them to fit the will of the citizens of their country. Spain, Canada, Mexico, Australia, and Uruguay are just a handful of countries that have legalized cannabis. Even Thailand is looking at cannabis legalization now.
While the United States federal government continues to support outdated cannabis prohibition, businesses that would be spending millions of dollars in the US economy are taking those dollars to Canada and elsewhere. Not only is the nation missing out on the benefit of the growth of these businesses but they’re missing out on substantial healthcare benefits as well.
Taxpayers Could Save Millions
It was reported that if the US were to legalize cannabis nationwide, it could save the government’s Medicaid program an estimated 1 billion dollars in prescription cost in just one year. While the US is supporting prohibition and incarcerating its citizens to fill prisons, other countries are listening to the will of the people who live there.
We Have Been Against it Since the Beginning
It’s not that the people of America have not spoken up about cannabis since the start of prohibition. TheLa GuardiaCommittee Reports in the 1940s along with the Shafer Commission Reports of the 1970s all supported ending cannabis prohibition.
As long as the elected leaders of America continue to support this outdated way of thinking America will fall behind and lose ground in many different aspects. From health to wealth and the stability of the future of the country it’s time for the leaders of America to wake up and acknowledge they were wrong.
