The green scene is cultivating success globally. From once being a prohibited plant to now becoming a globally traded commodity, cannabis is securing its place in society once again. This past Thursday, the very first shipment of legal cannabis arrived in the UK from the Netherlands. The shipment included 800 grams of medical grade cannabis. This was all possible thanks to a close collaboration between IPS Specials, European Cannabis Holdings (ECH) and Grow Biotech. They worked closely on the import with the Office of Medical Cannabis of the Netherlands to fulfill this historical milestone in the global cannabis trade.
The End of Prohibition for Many May be Near
Private agendas helped support prohibition in the US and around the world. Since 1937, America and countless others have suffered due to the prohibition of this widely misunderstood plant. In 2018, support for the legalization of cannabis was as at its highest level ever. 2019 is showing to be an even more impressive year for cannabis legalization.
In addition, there are even rumours that the US federal government may soon be removing cannabis from the schedule 1 classification. Additionally, they could be rescheduling it to a classification with medicinal value. The World Health Organization recommended rescheduling cannabis on a global level to a schedule-5 drug per international drug treaties.
Lack of Access Has Left Patients in the Dark
Medical cannabis became legal in Britain back in November of 2018. Since its legalization, medical cannabis patients have had no access to purchase medicine legally. Meanwhile, they have had to take the chance of importing a private stash or the other option of just waiting. Thankfully, the wait is over as they can now legally purchase cannabis imported from the Netherlands assuming they have a prescription.
The Ones That Made it Possible
A Dutch biotech firm/cannabis company called Bedrocan are the ones responsible for cultivating this medicinal cannabis for the UK. It was grown according to a strict set of standards that employ GMP and other pharmaceutical standards in its production. Now medical cannabis patients in the UK finally have access to their medicine.
This first shipment was a monumental one that established a legal route for importing cannabis. Moving forward, larger orders can take place allowing for a small stockpile or supply of medical cannabis to be available for patients in the UK. This way they never have to choose between breaking the law or legally medicating.
